The Nottingham and Derby District comprises of over 250 churches in the city, town and village with membership in single figures or in several hundreds.
The organisation and structure of the Methodist Church is somewhat different from some denominations in that chapels are gathered together at local level into groups called circuits. Each circuit is part of a geographical area called a district - in this case the Nottingham and Derby District. All the districts together form the whole of the Methodist Church in Great Britain, referred to as the Connexion. For more information see the main Methodist Website. The ordained ministers are specifically appointed to a circuit and not to a specific chapel, and the number of ministers will vary in each circuit. One minister in each circuit is assigned duties covering the whole of the circuit, and he/she has the title of Superintendent. The ministers are assisted by lay (non ordained) people who are trained to conduct worship in chapels and ensure that worship continues each Sunday. Listed on the following pages are the circuits in the Nottingham and Derby District along with the names of the Superintendent Ministers to contact them either use the telephone number listed or click on the name in order to use the e-mail facility. We would encourage anyone seeking to increase their knowledge of the Christian Church to contact the Superintendent of the circuit in which they live and they will be pleased to help them in any way and to put them into contact with their nearest Methodist Church.
