Whilst the District includes both the County towns of Nottingham and Derby it does not cover all of these two counties. The District includes all of South Derbyshire but excludes North of Matlock and the Buxton and Chesterfield areas of the County. The area to the north of Mansfield Woodhouse is not included. The districts round Grantham, Lincolnshire, Burton on Trent Staffordshire and the Vale of Belvoir Leicestershire are part of the district.

The cities in particular are ethnically diverse, multi-cultural and multi-faith. Both the inner cities and also the close-knit communities of the former coalfield areas suffer from social deprivation. The rural areas include traditional farming communities, dormitory villages and tourist areas such as the Derbyshire Dales. Wealth and poverty rub shoulders here, a situation exacerbated by the current plight of the farming industry and the high prices of first homes. A number of projects, with ecumenical Connexional and/or District funding support mutual understanding and outreach in several of the deprived areas,

The District has 25 circuits, 260 churchs, approximately 13,000 members and a community roll of almost 40,000.
